My dad told me to do this one thing every single day if I wanted to have a successful life and it stuck with me. It’s probably some of the best advice that I ever received from anybody. I’m so thankful for my dad instilling this into me at a young age because it’s something that is a part of me now. In fact, it’s something that I can’t live without.

He told me to do something productive every single day. Now, to give you guys an understanding of who my dad was, he grew up in a farm in the middle of Iowa with his mom, dad and three sisters. They lived on a gigantic farm where they had cattle, pigs, chicken, and miles and miles of corn and it was my dad and grandfather that primarily took care of it all by themselves, which is a lot of work.

It was my grandfather that instilled in my dad that you need to do something productive every single day, especially when you have a big task or you have something grand that you want to accomplish.

It may sound daunting at first, but if you just do something little that’s productive every single day, it makes it a lot easier. If you want to have a successful life, then you’ve got to have successful years. If you want to have successful years, then you’ve got to have successful months. If you want to have successful months, then you’ve got to have successful weeks. If you want to have successful weeks, then you’ve got to have successful days.

So my dad taught me this at a young age; no matter what it is or what it was that I was doing, that every single day that I needed to be doing something productive because this is how you create long term success.

The beauty of this is it’s not only about success, but this is also how you create happiness because ultimately progress is what equals happiness. By just chunking things down and accomplishing small things every single day, you’re ultimately going to make yourself happy because you’re getting somewhere, you’re fulfilled, you’re attaining something, you’re getting to the destination that you want to.

That’s some of the best advice that my dad ever gave to me was to do something productive every single day, even if it’s something small.
