Donald Trump’s Twitter marketing campaign is incredible for a couple reasons and I don’t care whether you hate the guy or you love the guy…it doesn’t matter to me.
I personally don’t know a whole lot about politics, so I’m not able to really comment on it, but we’re talking about marketing today anyways.
More specifically, we’re talking about viral marketing and there’s a lot that we could learn from Donald Trump’s Twitter campaigns.
His Twitter campaigns can really make you furious, right? Some people get really pissed off, but it actually teaches us some important things about marketing, about going viral and about getting people’s attention.
Ultimately, we’re on the internet and there’s stuff flashing and popping up all over the place, so how do you actually capture somebody’s attention?
Donald Trump obviously does a great job. He won the biggest marketing campaign, the presidential election, right? He got America to vote for him.
Here’s a couple things I think that Donald Trump does really good:
Number one, he’s really polarizing. You either hate Donald Trump or you love Donald Trump and there’s no in between. When he speaks or tweets, he is always completely on one side of the fence. It tends to be shocking, dramatic or even out of the norm. Because he’s never “in the middle” on an issue, it causes him to be so polarizing.
The second thing about Donald Trump is when he does tweet something, it tends to be sort of ridiculous. He’s good at getting people to arouse their emotions, right? One of the big reasons why people take action on social media and share something is because they have an emotional experience.
Love it or hate it, Trump can make people really angry and that anger inside of people causes people to take action and share it and talk about it. There’s this old saying that any press is good press, right? It doesn’t matter if they’re saying something bad about you or something good about you. It’s getting you out there. It’s getting you known.
I’m thinking about the guy from the Wolf of Wall Street, Jordan Belfort. He had all that bad press come out about him, but also, it’s all press. People got to know him like crazy and there’s a lot of people that obviously hate him but there’s a lot of people that love him as well. I think that those two things alone is big.
I believe you personally could begin reaching more people just by using some of the concepts he practices in his marketing campaigns.
I know a lot of the people that watch my stuff are just starting businesses and they’re wanting to know how to attract people’s attention because, ultimately, that’s the key to selling anything online.
First step is you have to grab people’s attention.
In conclusion, there’s actually a lot to learn from Donald Trump, whether you love him or you hate him.
